Daniel Schwalm

Writer, editor, and journalist

I'm a communicator, first and foremost. I have a passion for storytelling, and I pride myself on my ability to communicate clearly and effectively, especially through writing. I am an experienced writer, copy editor, and developmental editor, and an award-winning journalist. I also have a variety of other skills that I can use to help tell your story, including photography, videography, and web design.

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, I am now based in New Orleans, Louisiana. I love basketball, hiking, and reading. I am always looking to learn about new subjects through my work.

I am open to both freelance opportunities and full-time work.

I have won a Louisiana Press Association Award for Best Breaking News Story and a Catholic Press Association Award for Best Writing — Single Story Sports. I was also part of the Loyola Maroon editorial board that won a Pacemaker Award from the Associated Collegiate Press. Here are a few examples of some of my best work.

EDITORIAL WRITING

EDITORIAL WRITING

I believe that journalists have a responsibility to use their understanding of current events to help inform the opinions of their readers in a way that is thoughtful, fact-based, and compassionate. I was the opinions and editorial editor of the Loyola Maroon for the year that we won an Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Award. Individually, I also won two Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Awards in Editorial Writing and a Loyola English Department Award of Excellence in Writing for my time writing editorials at The Maroon. Here are some examples of my writing.

I also have extensive experience writing and editing copy for public relations and advertising, as well as doing basic web design. Here are a few websites I worked on, including a law firm and nonprofit organizations. For each of these sites, I wrote and edited copy and helped design the sites.
